New Alternative Back Pain Treatments

Most of us suffer form back pain. Sitting daily at a computer desk can cause lower back pain, lifting heavy objects can cause damage to the lower back, and a host of other activities one engages in can contribute to back pain. There are new alternative back pain treatments available. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Besides the conventional methods of relieving back pain such as taking Vitamin D, which may be a factor in chronic pain; yoga; meditation; biofeedback, and other methods which alleviate pain, there is another alternative back train treatment that isn’t new but has been around for 5000 years. It’s called Reflexology.

This is the process wherein certain areas of the hands and feet have a direct effect on those parts of the body where you experience pain. For example, if you have a headache you can rub your big toe and the headache will dissipate.

The Chinese practiced this ancient form of healing for centuries, and their primary belief is that if you do not have a balance within, you are more likely to develop certain illnesses and experience pain. We all know that stress can take its toll on the body. Certainly, if you are working on a deadline at the office, you will feel the muscles in your body begin to tense up and most likely you feel the pain in your lower back.

Thus, utilizing reflexology relieves pain by the applied pressure that sends signals via the nervous system and increases the circulation in the area where you are experiencing the pain, i.e., the lower back.

Here is an exercise you can do at home for back stress and pain.
Wash and dry your feet.
Perform deep breathing exercises.
Sit on the floor or bed and cross your leg so you can place one foot in your lap.
Stretch your foot and roll it back and forth in your hand.
Place your thumbs on the outside of your foot and move the thumbs up and down. Repeat this up to four times.
Now take the other foot and repeat the same process.
Lie down and relax.

Moreover, if you have severe back pain you can always make an appointment to visit a reflexologist. A treatment may last for up to 45 minutes or more and leaves you feeling calm and relaxed in addition to feeling pain-free. The role of the reflexologist is to first ask about the source of the pain, talk about your lifestyle and health concerns, and then proceed to treatment.

Although reflexology is not a new science, it is practiced and known as a new alternative to back pain treatments. With this method, you not only alleviate back pain but create a balance within that is necessary for overall health and well-being.
