These medical treatments can include bed rest with an anti inflammatory drugs or pain killers. Another medical treatment can include physical therapy after an accident or an injury.

Medical Treatments can also include exercises that you can do on your own as well as a prescription for pain and for inflammatory medication. For a very small percentage of people the treatments may be both medical and surgical depending on their injury or condition. When it comes to certain conditions, the condition itself will determine what the course of treatment is. For patients with Intervertebral Disc Heriniation there may be a medical treatment because this condition is caused by age. The medical treatment for this would be bed rest and a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug. Then physical therapy and exercise would be the follow up.

Degenerative Spinal Stenosis

For patients with the condition of Degenerative Spinal Stenosis. This condition affects the changes in the disks in the lower back. Changes in the spinal column affects all parts of the back. The medical treatments can be temporary hold on any type of physical activities and a non steroidal anti inflammatory drug. But the surgical treatment for this condition would be decompression of the spine which includes the removal of the soft tissue and then the use of bone grafts or other devices would be used to connect the parts of the spine.

Surgical treatment for lower back pain

Eight times out of ten lower back pain will be treated with medical treatments rather than surgery. Surgery is reserved for patients who have progressive nerve problems that are caused by herniated discs. Medical treatments include bed rest, non steroidal drugs and other medications depending on the condition. Sciatica is the only condition were both medical treatment and surgical treatment may be used. The doctor also has a say in the course of treatment. If you feel surgery would help you and your doctor does not then you may have to find one that agrees with you because most doctors do not like to perform back surgery of any kind if it is not necessary.
